The Gobi Desert Horse Trek

There is no better way than exploring the authenticity of Mongolia on horseback! On your Gobi Desert Horse Trek, you will ride the sturdy Mongol horse for 4 days surrounded by the scenes of Elsentasarkhai dunes, grassy and hilly steppes of Khugnu Tarni National Park, and the rugged Khugnu Khan rocky mountain. During the one-day nomad family stay, you will enjoy the local dishes, including an authentic Mongolian barbecue, observe the nomadic lifestyle, exchange information with hosts, or could volunteer them if you wish. 

Day 1: To Elsentasarkhai semi-desert, nomadic experiences, and horse riding
Meet your guide and driver at the airport/ the railway station/at your accommodation. The adventure starts with driving to Elsentasarkhai semi-desert in Hugnu Tarni National Park, which features sand dunes, mountain steppes, grasslands, and high mountains in a single area. Upon arrival in Elsentasarkhai, visit a nomad family and accept their hospitality through Mongolian milk tea and snacks. Afterward, the guide briefs the next days’ adventure and instructs how to ride a Mongolian horse. 2 to 3 hours horse trek in the Gobi Desert type steppe. In the evening, you sample an authentic Mongolian barbecue for dinner

Day 2: Horse trek to Ikh Mongol Mountain and Shireet Tsagaan Lake
Ride along sand dunes edge with a narrow river, viewing rolling mountains and open steppes on the other side. Mongolian central point column locates near the small lake Shireet Tsagaan surrounded by dunes between Ikh Mongol and Baga Mongol Mountains. The foundation of today’s capital Ulaanbaatar was put at this location in 1639. Near Ikh Mongol, you may see some deer and Argali wild sheep.

Day 3: Riding across the sand dunes heading Hugnu Khan Mountain
Today, you will ride through the expanse areas of the dunes to its north. On the way, explore small lakes before entering an expanse area where you may ride at a faster pace if you wish. Arrive at Hugnu Khan Mountain late afternoon and settle your camping.

Day 4: Explore the mountain and an ancient temple ruin followed by a visit to a local worshipping area
After breakfast, you will visit the ruins of Erdenehamba temple. You could make the journey more active, hiking through the mountain to see the Uvgun temple ruin. Views of surrounding areas are awe-inspiring from the mountain top. Next, the horse trek takes place on a flatter area to Khadagt Khoshuu, a local worshipping place. End your Gobi Desert horse trek when you reach a ger camp.

Day 5: Return to Ulaanbaatar 
You will arrive in Ulaanbaatar after 4-4.5 hours of driving. After lunch, check in at the hotel and have free time to discover the city on your own.
