Characteristics of Mongolian Meals

The traditional Mongolian meals are rich mixtures of meat, flour, and dairy products reflecting pastoral nomadism. Though the Mongolian ingredients are limited, Mongolian meal types are various, mostly require cooking in nature. To name but a few common, easy to cook at homes or restaurants, must try Mongolian meals;

1〉 Buuz (meat-filled steamed dumpling)

2〉 Khuushuur –deep-fried meat pocket

3〉 Tsuivan – Fried noodle stew with meat and vegetables

4〉 Khorkhog – barbeque dish of mutton or goat meat cooked with hot stones in a container

5〉 Boodog – goat or mutton in the carcass, cooked with hot stones from inside and fired from outside

6〉 Guriltai shul – meaty hand-made noodle soup

7〉 Banshtai tsai – Mongolian salty milk tea with dumplings

8〉 Bukhel makh – Boiled beef, mutton, camel, goat, or horse meat.

9〉 Borthstoi khool – all kinds of meals with dried meat; main courses or soups

10〉 Chanasan gedes – We suggest you try sheep intestine, intestine soup, and the blood sausage

In modern times, vegetables, rice, and pasta enriched the limited indigents. Visitors to Mongolia much appreciate the Western-friendly, vegetables-enriched Mongolian meals.

Restaurant meals in Ulaanbaatar

In Ulaanbaatar, there are a wide array of excellent gourmet restaurants from all over the world. Not all, but some of the tours include city sightseeing and meals in Ulaanbaatar. For your Mongolian experience, we choose Mongolian and a few western restaurants. The restaurants will serve you pre-booked meal courses.

Meals at ger camps

Ger camp stays included in the horse riding tours to make the adventure softer and comfortable.

The ger camps serve Mongolian and western meals according to their daily menus for all guests. Sample meal courses are;

A typical breakfast is a tea or coffee, bread, jam, butter, cereals, eggs, and sausage. There are some cookies, cheese, pancakes, and more at some ger camps for breakfast.

Lunch includes salads, Mongolian soups, the main course (pasta, rice, vegetables, beef/mutton/chicken/fish near lakes/rivers), dessert, and tea.

The ger camps serve salads, the main course, dessert, and tea for dinner.

Camping meals

A cook will serve a group of 4 or more travelers. Your cook guide will deal with smaller groups. This is to keep the tour price down if possible by assigning fewer cars and staff.

Camping breakfasts are typical with tea, coffee, bread, biscuits, jam, spread, cereals, eggs, and sausages.

The camping lunch and dinner consist of 2 courses of meals. It will be the main course and a salad, or the main course and a soup.

Local food courts

Eating what locals eat is always in the interest of travelers. Therefore, we included 1 or 2 local meals experience in the countryside food courts.

Bottled water – the vehicle will follow you to capable areas, carrying your luggage, including factory bottled water.

We drink boiled water for horseback adventures to the remote areas and obstacle trails when luggage horses carry our luggage.

For this reason, we advise you to bring a water bottle.

Moreover, please inform us in advance if you have any dietary requirements. We will serve the meals accordingly.
